The project
International Bomber Command Centre, Lincoln: A Landscape of Remembrance, Reflection and Reconciliation
The International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC) in Lincoln is a nationally significant memorial landscape designed to provide a place of recognition, remembrance and reconciliation. Influence was appointed to lead the landscape design and deliver the Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment for the Memorial Park and Spire, creating a sensitive and enduring setting for this important heritage site.
At the heart of the scheme are two Peace Gardens set within 10 acres of landscaped grounds, carefully designed to offer quiet contemplation and reflection. The Lincolnshire Peace Garden features 27 native lime trees representing Bomber Command stations, complemented by wildflower planting and over 8,000 daffodils.
The International Peace Garden commemorates the 62 nations involved, using globally inspired planting and a ‘coastline’ layout to promote peace and reconciliation.
Together, the landscapes combine symbolic design, ecological enhancement and sensitive masterplanning to create a meaningful, accessible environment for remembrance, learning and community engagement.
