Modern landscape design for a new medical school in Lincoln
The new space to the east of the building is to act as a full stop and focal point for the existing pedestrian boulevard running through the campus. Influence approached the design of the ground floor as a series of inter-connected spaces intended to lead and direct users of the campus to the building. To the centre of the space the ground plane is modulated and a gentle ramped surface carves out a seating arena amongst raised planting beds. The external spaces provide areas for quiet contemplation, whilst also allowing large numbers of people to gather at the heart of this new civic square.
The design intends to encourage students to use their surrounding environment both at ground floor and second floor level. A new roof terrace will provide the University with spaces for group and individual study, while maintaining an area capable of providing entertaining facilities. The soft design is that of a modern physic garden, reflecting the medicinal properties of plants throughout the ages.
